Roy Keane made a surprise comeback to Instagram on Thursday, posting a smiley selfie with his old Manchester United teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The former United captain joined Instagram in early 2021 and swiftly grew his following to more than two million, but he quit in May 2022.
However, after nearly two years gone, he returned to Instagram on Thursday, where he posted a photo of himself and Solskjaer beaming as they sat beside each other on a yacht.
Keane is known for his caustic sense of humour, and he captioned his post with a cheeky request: ‘DM us if you’re seeking to recruit a manager’.
Keane has made little secret of his ambition to return to manager, but has not had a position in 13 years since leaving Ipswich Town in 2011.
He previously led Sunderland to Premier League promotion before moving on to work as Martin O’Neill’s assistant with the Republic of Ireland.
The 52-year-old has shown a desire in taking over as national team manager, but the Republic of Ireland named another former United player, John O’Shea, as interim head coach last week.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer has been out of the dugout for more than two years after leaving Old Trafford.
After coaching Molde and Cardiff City, Solskjaer was named temporary manager of United in December 2018 following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, and he was promoted to full-time manager later that season after impressing in his first months back at the club.
Solskjaer, a United icon for his Champions League-winning goal in 1999, led the team to consecutive top-three finishes in 2020 and 2021, but the Red Devils were unable to win a trophy, losing on penalties to Villarreal in the Europa League final.
After a poor start to the 2021-22 season, Solskjaer was dismissed of his duties in November 2021.
He is also eager to return to the field and has admitted that he has rejected down several job offers since leaving United.
Solskjaer opened up about his troubles at United during a recent appearance on Sky Bet’s Stick to Football podcast, where he discussed his decision to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, his tactical approach in important games, and dealing with ‘Gen Z’ players.
The Norwegian coach maintained he had learned some valuable lessons from his time at Old Trafford and is keen to do things his way in his future management position.
