Roy Keane made a surprise comeback to Instagram on Thursday, sharing a smiling selfie with his old Manchester United teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The former United captain joined Instagram in early 2021 and soon had a following of more than two million, but he quit the social media platform in May 2022.
However, after nearly two years gone, he returned to Instagram on Thursday, posting a photo of himself and Solskjaer beaming as they sat beside each other on a yacht.
Keane, known for his caustic sense of humour, captioned his post with a cheeky request: ‘DM us if you’re seeking to recruit a manager’.
Keane has made little secret of his ambition to return to management, but he has not held a position in 13 years, having left Ipswich Town in 2011.
He previously led Sunderland to Premier League promotion before joining the Republic of Ireland as Martin O’Neill’s assistant.
The 52-year-old has indicated interest in taking over the national team, but the Republic of Ireland named another former United player, John O’Shea, as interim head coach last week.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer has been gone from the dugout for more than two years after leaving Old Trafford.
Solskjaer, who formerly coached Molde and Cardiff City, was appointed interim manager of United in December 2018 following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, and he was promoted to full-time manager later that season after impressing in his first months back.
Solskjaer, a United hero thanks to his Champions League-winning goal in 1999, led the team to consecutive top-three finishes in 2020 and 2021, but the Red Devils failed to win a trophy, losing on penalties to Villarreal in the Europa League final.
After a disappointing start to the 2021-22 season, Solskjaer was dismissed of his duties in November 2021.
He is also eager to return to the field, having turned down several job offers since leaving United.
Solskjaer spoke honestly about his troubles at United during a recent appearance on the Sky Bet-sponsored Stick to Football podcast, where he discussed his decision to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, his tactical approach in important games, and dealing with ‘Gen Z’ players.
The Norwegian coach maintained he had learned valuable lessons from his stint at Old Trafford and is determined to do things his way in his future management position.
