Mason Greenwood, on loan from Manchester United, continued his superb performance for Getafe in their dramatic La Liga draw at home to Las Palmas.
Greenwood, who is having a wonderful season on the continent, scored the second goal for his club in the 3-3 tie.
The United player was active early on, getting one shot off before Jamie Mata gave Getafe the lead ten minutes in with a neat finish off a recycled corner.
After being given freedom in the Las Palmas half, Greenwood skillfully maneuvered around Alvaro Valles to score Getafe’s second goal in just three minutes, capping an explosive first half of play.
The 22-year-old was never going to miss as he bore down on goal, superbly finishing his eighth of the season to put the home side in command.
They maintained control until the 35th minute, when former Everton striker Sandro Ramirez scored a magnificent 20-yard strike to cut the margin in half.
However, Nemanja Maksimovic preserved Getafe’s two-goal lead at halftime by burying a header in the final minute.
Greenwood had five shots in the first 45 minutes, indicating that he is swiftly becoming Getafe’s major attacking option. A late yellow card was the lone blemish on a strong first period.
Greenwood’s second half, however, fell short of his first, as Getafe strangely squandered their lead to offer the away side a share of the points.
Mika Marmol and Munir both scored before the hour, and there was nothing Greenwood or his teammates could do to change the game’s outcome.
Despite the missed points, Greenwood will be satisfied with his personal performance, particularly in the first half, when the forward was at his scorching best.
Greenwood demonstrated his dominance as Getafe’s top dribbler in this thrilling encounter, completing 5/5 dribbles successfully. Furthermore, he did very impressively in defense, with 7 recoveries and 5/6 duels won.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently declared that his INEOS consortium will take a “fresh look” at Greenwood’s situation at United, but a return to the first-team fold would be surprising.
It’s more likely that the forward’s future lies away from Old Trafford, and United will hope that his fine form can continue until the end of the season to increase his market worth.
Greenwood has not played for United since being accused with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing serious bodily harm, with his last game coming in January 2022.
