According to Fichajes, Manchester United is one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella this summer.
The Italian international has long been linked with a move to England’s top division. He was on Newcastle United’s radar last summer, but he declined the offer to join them.
This has not put an end to speculation about his future plans. According to Fichajes, Inter is now on a campaign to maintain their primary asset and would like to extend his tenure until June 2028.
The 27-year-old is a crucial component of manager Simone Inzaghi’s ambitions, but it is possible that his stance will alter if United, Newcastle, or Liverpool can ‘finally persuade’ the player and Inter to move.
United could consider a summer move for Barella
The former Cagliari player has established himself as the Nerazzurri’s number eight. He has seven goals in 35 appearances this season.
Aside from his goals, Barella has completed an astounding 86% of his passes in the Italian Serie A, with 4.8 ball recoveries and 1.3 tackles won per game.
His hard work ethic and aggressive pressing have made him a big success at San Siro. Barella, who has just turned 27, is in the peak of his career, and removing him will be difficult.
Barella is now valued at €75 million (£64 million) on Transfermarkt. With two years remaining on his contract, the Nerazzurri could request a comparable price to facilitate his departure.
A contract could be contingent on the needs of manager Erik ten Hag. If Casemiro leaves United, the attention could shift to a holding midfielder, and Barella may not be an option.
Otherwise, he’d be an excellent addition. Barella would bring greater originality. Over the last two seasons, he has helped Inter score 19 and 17 goals, respectively.
