Marcus Rashford has responded to media criticism by confirming his allegiance to Manchester United.
Rashford has written a lengthy article for the Player’s Tribune, in which he reaffirms his devotion to United despite harsh criticism of his recent performances. He has also criticized the media, citing many reports about a drunken night in Ireland and parking citations that were published in various outlets.
Rashford wrote, “I’m not trying to criticise the media. I understand the game, you know? They’re not actually writing about me. It’s as if they’re writing about the character “Marcus Rashford.” It can’t just be about me, a 26-year-old lad on a night out, or a lad getting a parking penalty. It has to be about how much my car costs, estimating my weekly earnings, my jewelry, or my tattoos. It must be about my body language, doubting my morals, and speculating about my family and football future. There’s a tone to it that isn’t common among football players. Let’s leave it at that.
“I believe some of it dates back to the pandemic. I was just trying to use my voice to ensure that children would not go hungry, since I understand how it feels. For whatever reason, that irritated some folks. They appear to be waiting for me to have a human moment so they can point the finger and say, “See?” “See who he really is?”
“Listen, I am not a flawless person. When I make a mistake, I’ll be the first to raise my hand and acknowledge that I need to improve. But if you ever doubt my dedication to Manchester United, I have to speak up. It’s as if someone is challenging my entire identity and what I stand for as a guy. I grew up here. I’ve been a member of this club since I was a boy. My family turned away life-changing money when I was a child so that I may wear this medal.”
Rashford also claims that he will do anything for the United badge in order to regain his form, saying, “I can take any criticism.” I can take any headline. From podcasts, social media, and newspapers. I can take it. But if you start questioning my dedication to this club, my passion of football, and the fact that I’ve brought my family into it, I’d simply ask you to be more human.”
