Celtics Extend Winning Streak to Nine Games with Victory over 76ers. The Boston Celtics continued their impressive form by securing their ninth consecutive win with a victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 31 points, closely followed by Jayson Tatum with 29 points.
With just over two minutes remaining in the game and Boston holding an 18-point lead, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla made the decision to rest key players such as Brown, Tatum, Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick White.
Tatum had an outstanding performance, contributing 11 rebounds and eight assists in 35 minutes of play. He was just two assists shy of achieving his third career triple-double. When asked by NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin if he requested to remain in the game, Tatum humorously responded, “Nah. I turn 26 on Sunday. I’m getting old. I need some rest.”
The Sixers managed to reduce the Celtics’ lead to only two points with 8:49 left in the fourth quarter, prompting Boston to call a timeout. However, the Celtics responded emphatically with a 15-0 run to secure the victory.
Tatum highlighted the team’s growth and learning from past experiences, particularly from the previous season. He mentioned their focused approach in practice and film sessions to better handle critical game situations.
Despite shooting just 5-for-22 from beyond the arc, the Celtics maintained an impressive 52.7% shooting accuracy from the field. They also capitalized on their inside presence, scoring 64 points in the paint, which played a crucial role in their win.
Currently holding the best record in the NBA, the Celtics will aim to extend their winning streak to ten games when they face the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.
