Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s coach, acknowledged that Grealish may have re-injured his groin in today’s 6-2 FA Cup 5th Round victory over Luton.
Despite only being a guest against Luton Town, Man City provided a more convincing performance when Haaland completed his own “small hand” and Kevin de Bruyne also added four assists, with the monthly goal still remaining. It belongs to Kovacic, the long shot.
However, Pep Guardiola and his students were unable to fully experience the euphoria after 90 minutes of play. Grealish was forced to leave the field in minute 38, handing over his spot to Doku.
Things became much more bad when the English striker was seen pulling his jacket over his face and crying on the bench.
Grealish previously suffered a groin injury during a Champions League victory over Copenhagen earlier this month, forcing him to miss two games. The 28-year-old winger just returned to the bench for the match against Bournemouth last Saturday.
When asked if Grealish’s problem was a recurrence of his groin injury, coach Pep Guardiola said to ITV Sport: “It appears so. Yes, really sad.
This is his second injury. Hopefully, this time he will heal well.”
This is not good news for Manchester City, especially at this time in the season.
However, the Citizens might take some consolation from what Haaland and De Bruyne did in this morning’s play. Regarding this great duo, Pep Guardiola continued to say:
“Erling Haaland is on fire like never before, and he and De Bruyne make an ideal pairing.
We had room in the back, and it was a great game. “Yes, we advanced to the quarterfinals.”
When asked if the return of Haaland and De Bruyne will boost Manchester City’s strength, Pep responded: “Yes, certainly.
The relationship between the two is excellent. Haaland need a passer similar to Kevin, but Kevin requires a striker with Haaland’s movement ability.
Not only that, but the rest of the team performed admirably.”
With today’s triumph, Man City has moved to the FA Cup’s fifth round. In addition, coach Pep Guardiola’s club is now positioned second in the Premier League with 59 points after 26 matches, one point behind Liverpool.
In the Champions League, the Citizens appear to be headed for the quarterfinals after defeating Copenhagen 3-1 in the first leg of their round of 16 road encounter.
Man City will now face a very challenging Manchester Derby on March 3 at the Etihad Stadium. Following that, Pep Guardiola and his students will face Copenhagen in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 on March 7, before flying to Liverpool’s Anfield three days later.
