Erik ten Hag offered 19-year-old Omari Forson the opportunity to start in the Premier League game against Fulham.
Omari Forson was born in Hammersmith, London, to Ghanaian parents. Forson started his career in West Ham United’s academy before going to Tottenham, but he didn’t see a clear path to success at the north London club and eventually joined Manchester United’s development system in 2019.
Erik ten Hag has added Forson to United’s preseason travel squad for 2023-24. On February 2, 2024, Forson made his Premier League debut as a substitute in the Red Devils’ thrilling 4-3 victory over Wolves, assisting on a goal. Kobbie Mainoo’s decisive win.
After three games on the United bench, Forson received his first start against Fulham on Saturday. Ten Hag revealed to media ahead of the Fulham game why he gave Forson his first Premier League start. The Dutch coach explained:
“He recently played two matches against Newport and Wolves. He had a standout performance against Wolves, assisting Kobbie Mainoo. But more importantly, he demonstrated it throughout practice.
Forson’s presence in the starting lineup ahead of Amad Diallo and Antony indicates that the two could be transferred in the summer. Amad, who has only participated in one match so far in the 2023-24 season, was linked with a move away from the club in January due to interest from Sunderland, but has voiced his desire to stay and battle for your job.
Meanwhile, Antony has only scored once in 25 appearances this season, as his dismal record continues after arriving to Old Trafford from Ajax at £85 million in 2022.
