’11 clearances, 100% aerials won’: Man Utd star deserved ‘big award’ for brilliant display vs Luton

Manchester United won their fourth consecutive Premier League game on Sunday, defeating Luton Town 2-1 at Kenilworth Road.

Rasmus Hojlund scored the first goal for the Red Devils after 37 seconds, and the Dane increased the lead in the seventh minute.

Luton halved the deficit in the 14th minute thanks to Carlton Morris. United had numerous chances to extend their lead but failed to capitalise.

Despite this, the club managed to score three points on the road. Jonny Evans had a significant part to play after coming on as a half-time substitution.

The 36-year-old replaced Harry Maguire, who was previously booked. He had a great 49-minute performance, making 11 clearances.

The veteran great also won all of his aerial duels and had two interceptions. The Northern Irishman lost possession three times and completed 16 of his 19 passes.

Evans deserves a short-term extension at United. When Evans was given a short-term contract, fans and analysts raised numerous questions.

The club’s inability to sign a marquee central defense paved the way for Evans’ return, and he has certainly justified the manager’s belief.

Maguire had a dismal first half for Luton. With a short free kick that went straight into Ross Barkley’s path, the Englishman nearly gifted the equaliser.

After being booked, manager Erik ten Hag took precautions by replacing him with Evans, who performed admirably defensively for United.

In our opinion, Evans has done more than enough for the club this season to justify a new contract beyond the current season.

At £65,000 a week, he is among the lowest earners. We believe the club should keep him for another year because he is satisfied with his limited playing time.

Evans would bring more talent and experience off the bench in the event of an injury crisis. Keeping him in the United ranks seems like a no-brainer.
