When Manchester United took a 2-0 lead over Luton Town after only seven minutes, their fans would have breathed a sigh of relief, anticipating for a far smoother night than imagined.
However, Luton Town began to fight back, with Carlton Morris responding quickly, until Manchester United’s’sloppiness’ frustrated Peter Schmeichel.
The great goalie wasn’t satisfied with how Casemiro, Harry Maguire, and Marcus Rashford performed during the game, as he told Premier League Productions (17/02/24 at 5:30 pm).
Casemiro and Harry Maguire were both booked at halftime, and their manager Erik ten Hag replaced them with Scott McTominay and Jonny Evans.
That’s what Peter Schmeichel noticed at halftime, when he added that Harry Maguire was ‘asking for a yellow card’ before entering the referee’s book.
Many will argue that Casemiro was fortunate to remain on the field because he committed a foul while already on a yellow card, which many believed should have resulted in a second yellow.
Marcus Rashford, another player who upset Peter Schmeichel, believes he contributes ‘nothing’ at times.
Harry Maguire, Casemiro, and Marcus Rashford”They have gone very, very sloppy,” Schmeichel explained. “Casemiro has a yellow card and should have received a second. Ten Hag has a major decision to make, and I don’t think he’ll play Casemiro in the second half. I do not think he can.
“That’s the issue with sloppiness; Harry Maguire has been requesting a yellow card, and he was successful in that. He’s been moving up a lot into the opposing half, pushing guys and wrestling from behind. Things you do not do. It’s the tiny things that lead to a lack of concentration.
“You have seen Rashford doing stuff, then stopping and doing nothing.”
Manchester United stumbled over the line.
All that counts is that Manchester United gets three points; just as at Villa Park last week, they were arguably fortunate to get away with maximum points.
However, at this point in the season, it’s more important to get the job done than to look good.
Rasmus Hotlund’s success, which has seen him score in six consecutive Premier League games, is hugely beneficial to Manchester United.
That player, who many questioned, is now being hailed and applauded because he appears to be the real deal in Manchester United colours.
