Steph Curry defeated Sabrina Ionescu in the NBA vs. WNBA 3-Point Challenge during NBA All-Star Weekend on Saturday night, a first in the competition.
Ionescu went first and came out hot, scoring 26 points, which would have qualified him for the final of the Starry 3-Point Contest, which Damian Lillard won. Ionescu used a WNBA-regulation ball, but she refused to back down from the task of shooting from the NBA line, resulting in an astounding 26 points.
Ionescu undoubtedly placed pressure on Curry, and her performance astounded spectators.
But Curry demonstrated why he is the best shooter of all time with his effort. It was still anyone’s game halfway through Curry’s round, but he caught fire late and secured the victory on his money ball rack with 29 points.
The charity event surely piqued the interest of both NBA and WNBA fans, and it is unlikely that the two leagues would compete again. Curry ultimately won, but the night foreshadowed a thrilling future of three-point wars.
