Jayson Tatum, a big fan of the late Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers, looked up to the basketball star when he was a child. Tatum’s admiration for Bryant was so strong that he had a dislike for the Boston Celtics, the team he now plays for, as Bryant had ties to the Lakers.
Since Bryant’s tragic deаth in a helicopter crаsh last year, Tatum has made it a point to honor him whenever possible. He recently got a new tattoo as a tribute to Bryant, combining two “black mambas,” which was Bryant’s self-assigned nickname, to represent his second career number, 24. Tatum shared a picture of his tattoo on his Instagram story, further showcasing his respect and admiration for Bryant.
Tatum and Bryant had a connection both before and after Bryant entered the NBA, and they even practiced together at times. Some people, including former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, believe that Tatum has the potential to become the next Bryant in the league.
Bryant held Tatum in high regard as well, even questioning the Lakers’ decision not to select him in the 2017 NBA draft. They spent time together from 2017 until Bryant’s passing in 2020.
As Tatum continues to develop and reach his peak, he strives to make his idol proud with his performance on the basketball court. Celtics fans are undoubtedly excited to see what the future holds for their talented player.
