Lisandro Martinez, a Manchester United defender, appears to be heading for a second lengthy absence after squad manager Erik Ten Hag said on Sunday evening that his knee injury “doesn’t look good”. Martinez walked out during United’s otherwise successful match against West Ham, having only recently returned from a 22-game absence due to a foot ailment.
Following manager Erik Ten Hag’s recent comments on Sunday, Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez appears to be poised for a second lengthy time on the sidelines.
Following United’s excellent 3-0 victory over West Ham, Ten Hag expressed concern about the Argentina international’s immediate future.
Ten Hag commented, “It doesn’t look good.”
Continuing, the former Ajax manager stated: “There is a serious issue. We need to wait a few days for the diagnosis.
“He is very sad and disappointed.” We all feel strongly about him. First and foremost, it is a personal disaster when things go bad, but it is also horrible for the team because he provides us a lot.”
United have suffered a slew of injuries this season, but fellow defenders Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are expected to return soon.
While the Red Devils have occasionally been forced to field an improvised lineup this season, Ten Hag stated that this is no longer the case.
He stated, “There are periods during the season when we have to adapt to field an XI, and we don’t have one right now.
“But then the injury is coming from Licha Martinez, so I hope we are not going back in such a process, we want to stay away from it.”
Martinez missed 22 games earlier this season due to a foot injury before returning last month for United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham at Old Trafford.
A second big injury to a key member of United’s defensive setup would be a serious setback to their plans.
While an official diagnosis has yet to be made, United teammate Diogo Dalot hinted at the injury’s seriousness in a gloomy Instagram post on Sunday.
The post’s content said, “Your pain is our pain.” “You’ll be back soon, brother.”
