According to The Sun, free-spending City see Olise as a big acquisition ahead of the new campaign, and figures are currently preparing an eye-catching offer.

But United, who are bracing for a busy transfer window under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, are also interested in making the 22-year-old a marquee signing.

With both clubs poised to submit official approaches, City is understood to be hoping that the opportunity to join Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad will entice Olise to choose them.

A charge of £60 million or more has been proposed, with City unconcerned about the cost.

Olise’s ball skills and ability to operate from the right flank may make him an ideal match for United and City, both of whom are looking for reinforcements.

Chelsea also pursued Olise at the start of the season but were turned down, with the attacker instead opting to commit his future to Palace in an unexpected move.

According to the same article, game time will play an important role in his decision-making.

Olise has six goals and three assists this season. His contract is set to expire in 2027, and the agreement includes an undisclosed release option.

He may be forced to miss a lot of games after suffering an unexpected injury in Palace’s 4-1 defeat to rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

Despite being a doubt going into the game after being forced out in the 3-2 win over Sheffield United, Olise was hauled on at half-time.

Why the January 2024 Transfer Window Has Been So Quiet

Palace, who trailed 3-0 at halftime, subsequently lost Olise after aggravating an injury. Roy Hodgson, the manager, claimed he had been cleared to play the sensation.

‘I was told he couldn’t start the game, and everyone was fine with that,’ he told reporters after the encounter. ‘They (medical staff) informed me, and he said he was fine to sit on the bench and play in the second half.

‘Unfortunately, because I don’t have a crystal ball, I didn’t know that was going to result in him suffering a recurrence of his injury, which is exactly what happened. It’s the same with hindsight: if you’re trailing 3-0, why start one of your best players?

‘The explanation is that we brought him all the way here to be on the bench for the second half because we wanted our best players on the pitch.

‘It’s not easy when you’ve got a guy of his caliber capable of playing to simply say, “Oh, by the way, I know we’ve brought you all the way here to play, but I’ve changed my mind; you’ll just have to sit on the bench and watch it.”
