Steph Curry named to tenth All-Star team, The Chef is ready to cook again

Steph Curry was named an All-Star reserve Thursday night, marking his tenth All-Star Game berth. Coaches selected Curry as one of seven reserves after he finished behind the starting Western Conference backcourt of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic.

How many NBA All-Star nominations has Steph Curry earned?

Curry’s eighth All-Star selection ties him with Philadelphia Warriors small forward Paul Arizin for the franchise record. Arizin was an All-Star for ten years, from 1951 to 1962, and the two years he wasn’t, he served in the Marines for the Korean War. Despite making the All-Star team in 1962, Arizin elected to retire rather than join the Warriors when they relocated to San Francisco.

Chef Curry has appeared in ten of the previous eleven seasons, with the exception of five games in the 2019-20 season due to injury. Despite the Golden State Warriors’ down year, Curry is still averaging 27.5 points, five assists, and the fewest turnovers since the 2018-19 season. He leads the NBA in free throw % and three-pointers made, with 195.

TNT increased the drama when they unveiled the starters. After the “Inside the NBA” crew disclosed that Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns and Anthony Edwards were two of the backup guards, Shaquille O’Neal declared that his envelope had Curry’s name before even opening it. Shaqstrodamus was right.

Because he cheated and looked.

Curry has a long history with the All-Star Game, winning MVP in 2022 after scoring 50 points and hitting a record 16 three-pointers. He has also won two Three-Point Contests and the Taco Bell Skills Challenge in 2011.

He also has some all-time highlights, including as this insane alley-oop to Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2019.

But our favorite occurred in 2021, when he and future teammate Chris Paul stunned the world by swapping alley-oops with each other. Curry was so happy to actually dunk that he hung on the rim.

Curry earned tenth place. And it’s fitting that he associates with Arizin, who was a pioneer in popularizing the jump shot. The best jump shooter of all time is the same as the first jump shooter of all time. We really hope Curry could chuck Arizin an alley-oop.
