ANDRE ONANA is thinking about his international future after his return to the Cameroon team ended in catastrophe.
The Manchester United goalkeeper, 27, agonized over the decision to quit his new club and play in this month’s African Cup of Nations.
However, he appeared in only one of their four matches before being eliminated by Nigeria in the last 16 over the weekend, with his COUSIN, Nimes goalkeeper Fabrice Ondo, favored instead.
And he has now returned to the North West to prepare for tomorrow night’s trip to Wolves, where he will assess his choices over the next weeks.
When Onana signed for United in the summer for £47 million from Inter, he notified them that he had retired from international football.
He had previously decided not to play for his country after a disagreement with president Samuel Eto’o and coach Rigobert Song during the 2022 World Cup.
However, he was convinced to return for an important AFCON qualifier in the autumn.
Then he decided he wanted to play in the finals.
United and Cameroon agreed that he would stay in Manchester for a few extra days.
He then missed the first game because of travel issues.
Onana played in the defeat to Senegal but was subsequently dropped for the next two matches against Gambia and Nigeria, who eliminated the Indomitable Lions.
His comeback means he only missed one game, the FA Cup victory against League Two Newport on Sunday.
However, United had Altay Bayindir, a Turkey international, in goal.
