‘96% accuracy, 100% tackles won’: Man Utd star continue his ‘Own Show’ at AFCON

Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat was named man of the match in Morocco’s 1-0 victory over Zambia in the African Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old has been in excellent form for his country throughout the tournament, and he delivered another strong effort from the sixth spot.

Amrabat controlled the proceedings, with a passing accuracy of 96%. He completed all of his long balls and take-ons and won all three tackles.

Over the course of 90 minutes, the midfielder only lost possession three times. It was no surprise that he was named player of the match following the game.

Morocco advanced to the round of 16 stage of the African Cup of Nations, finishing first in their group. They finished four points clear of second-placed Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The 2022 World Cup semi-finalists will now face South Africa on January 30, and they should be favourites to advance to the tournament’s final eight. They could encounter Cape Verde or Mauritania.

Meanwhile, Amrabat appears to have found his form and confidence while playing for his country, and United will be hoping that he can duplicate such performances at the club level.

With the rise of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro’s injury comeback, he appears unlikely to make the starting lineup, but he could play off the bench for the remainder of the season.

United have the option of signing Amrabat permanently from Fiorentina this summer. The club is expected to reject the clause because he has failed to satisfy expectations.
