Rodri carved his name in club history by scoring the winning goal as Manchester City won the Champions League for the first time and completed the treble.

The Spaniard scored midway through the second half of a tight final against Inter Milan in Istanbul. City were far from their spectacular best, but it didn’t matter because they eventually won the most coveted title in club football.

Rodri will be the toast of the blue half of Manchester. It will also be an emotional event for his long-term girlfriend, Laura. They met at university in Spain, so they’re not your typical footballer-WAG relationship.

Rodri holds a degree in Management and Business Administration, while Laura is a medical student preparing to become a surgeon.

Laura, unlike many WAGS, who are quite active on social media and have hundreds of followers, keeps her private life hidden. She and her football beau did, however, discuss their romance in an interview with Manchester City’s in-house media last year.

The two joked that Laura, despite her career, was a little squeamish and had reacted with horror when Rodri cut his finger in the kitchen once.

The piece also included a film of Laura going insane after seeing her partner score against Arsenal, so one wonders how she reacted when he scored the most significant goal in City history.

After the final, an emotional Rodri remarked: “I wasn’t good in the first half – I was playing s, to be honest, and then we talked about mentality, and I just said to myself, ‘You have to calm the situation’. Finally, I scored a goal. Unbelievable.”

He continued, “I’m emotional. This is a dream come true. All of these guys deserve it, and they’ve been waiting for I don’t know how long, 20, 30, or 40 years. I’ve only been here four years, but they deserve it, as do we.

“It wasn’t easy. What a squad we faced; their defense and counter-attack were outstanding; they deserve recognition as well since they are a wonderful team.”
