Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers spoke on ESPN’s The Woj Pod to discuss a variety of issues. During the show, Myers disclosed that Danny Ainge attempted to trade for Steph Curry while he was the Boston Celtics’ general manager, but the talks did not go very far.
“I never was upset at anybody asking [for Curry],” Myers was quoted as saying. “The GM’s role is to look for transactions. That’s what a general manager does. But [Danny] Ainge was the one who was constantly asking… We just laughed. As I already stated, we have a great relationship. But you’ve got to ask. I mean, everyone knew it wasn’t going to happen, so it was kind of funny.”
Ainge and Myers had a solid relationship, and it appears the then-Celtics general manager realized there was no possibility of acquiring Curry from the Warriors, but he had to take a shot at it. According to Myers, the two laughed when Ainge mentioned Curry’s name, knowing there was no way it could happen.
Curry is one of the few NBA superstars who have spent their entire career with the same franchise. He and the Warriors have remained faithful to one other through ups and downs, and it appears that this will not change.
