Act of Generosity: Anthony Davis Gifts Car to Local Family at Kingsley House
On December 12, 2017, basketball player Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans surprised a local family at the Kingsley House by gifting them a car. Meanwhile, Devin Booker, a player for the Phoenix Suns, made headlines when he arrived at an NBA game against the Los Angeles Lakers in a “truly iconic American car” – a 1957 purple El Valle Chevrolet Bel Air lowrider.
Although Booker, 27 years old, didn’t play in the game, his choice of transportation drew attention. He drove the stunning lowrider car to the Footprint Center as a way for Phoenix to honor his Mexican-American community through the unveiling of the 2023-24 City Edition uniform.
The special stadium and the purple and orange “El Valle” jerseys of the team pay tribute to the lowrider lifestyle of the Chicanos living in the city. Booker’s car, featuring the distinctive Chicanos pinstriping, matches the color scheme as well.
Efraín “Bugs” Gonzalez, a renowned car designer in the valley, created the design for this convertible car.

Chevrolet aimed to “bring a softness to performance,” according to General Motors, and this innovative technology enhanced both productivity and fuel efficiency.
