Arda Guler, a teenage Turkish midfielder, made an outstanding start for Real Madrid in Saturday’s Copa del Rey triumph over Arandina.
The 18-year-old, who joined Madrid in a €20 million deal from Fenerbahce six months ago, played the first 59 minutes before being replaced by Federico Valverde.
Guler almost scored his first goal for Real Madrid in the 18th minute, but his free-kick from 20 yards missed the post.
Guler had three shots, including that effort, and created two chances for his teammates.
He finished 32 of 36 passes and two of three dribbles.
Guler also shown his defensive abilities by recovering three balls.
On Saturday, Alvaro Carrillo, 21, and Vinicius Tobias, 19, made their debuts as central defenders.
In the 54th minute, Joselu scored from the penalty spot after Brahim Diaz had been fouled.
Diaz then doubled Madrid’s advantage 78 seconds later before aiding Rodrygo to make it 3-0 in added time.
A late Nacho own goal prevented Madrid from keeping a clean sheet, but the 20-time winners nevertheless advanced to the round of 16.
The draw for the last 16 will take place on Monday, with the following round of matches scheduled for January 17.
