Real Madrid dominated the first half of their encounter against Mallorca Sunday night. At one point, they had 67% ball control, 17 shots, and two major chances, and the game was theirs to lose.
Nonetheless, given Real Madrid’s struggles in front of goal, a draw appeared to be the most likely outcome for the whole of the game. The Merengues failed to capitalize on their 1.71 xG on the night, and needed an Antonio Rudiger header to win.
In a press conference following his amazing match-winning goal, Antonio Rudiger emphasized the hurdles Mallorca offered to the hosts on the night and how he overcame them to score the game-winning goal.
“It wasn’t easy to find gaps, so scoring this goal makes me very happy.” We had prepared it. Carvajal is an excellent screenwriter. Modric’s ball was excellent, I timed my move perfectly, and it was a good header.”
“It’s been a tough game. This is exactly what we expected. “We knew Mallorca would stop the game and defend with many men behind,” he added, complimenting the opposition.
The German superstar was then asked to comment on his recent hot streak. He modestly ascribed the majority of it to teamwork, noting,
“I’m feeling great and working hard. We defend quite well as a group. That simplifies my job. I want to play more by discovering myself in this way. The dressing room has a pleasant feel.”
Finally, Rudiger discussed Real Madrid’s position as joint leaders of La Liga halfway through the season.
“The first half was fantastic, but we can’t stop now.” We must continue to work because Mallorca offers many chances today.”
Fran Garcia is overjoyed with his victory
After the final whistle, Fran Garcia was the next player to address the media. The starting left-back spoke to the media after the game about the significance of the win in the grand scheme of things.
“It was a difficult match, and it was critical to return to the competition with a victory in front of our fans.” We realize that these victories matter in the league.”
Garcia went on to compliment his teammates’ ability to remain together through thick and thin and grind out points even in the most difficult of circumstances.
“The team worked until the end, and we kept all three points at home against a shaky opponent.” Every weekend, the everyday labor is visible, and we must continue in this manner because I am confident that great things will arrive.”
The Spanish full-back praised Rudiger, the night’s goal-scorer, saying, “He is an incredible person, and I am very happy for him, for the three points, and for being leaders.”
Finally, the left-back commented on Real Madrid’s position after 19 Matchdays in La Liga and what the future held for them.
“It’s fine. We only have one defeat, and we must perceive it with fresh eyes at the pinnacle of the championship. We must continue to work every day.”
