The Los Angeles Lakers are determined to get their hands on the cash prize that accompanies the NBA In-Season Tournament championship, as revealed by LeBron James himself after their recent victory.
The Lakers emerged victorious against the Indiana Pacers in Las Vegas, becoming the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament champions. As devoted followers of the tournament know, each player from the winning team receives a bonus of $500,000.
Interestingly, James shared that his Lakers teammates, particularly the younger players, were eagerly anticipating the prize money. Rather humorously, their very first question to James after the game was, “So, when do we get our money?” This amusing inquiry drew laughter from the fans at T-Mobile Arena.
The players’ excitement over the cash prize is understandable, considering that some of them have base salaries that are $2 million below the league average. Therefore, an extra $500,000 is a substantial amount of money for them.
It’s not surprising that they are eager to know when they will receive their prize. Being in Las Vegas, some players are likely already thinking about how they will spend their share of the cash.
Hopefully, the NBA administration, led by Adam Silver, will expedite the process of distributing the prize money to LeBron James and the Lakers. They certainly deserve to enjoy the fruits of their victory sooner rather than later.
