Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has stated that John Stones’ injury against Everton ‘doesn’t look good’.
After an underwhelming run in the Premier League, City returned to winning ways after winning the Club World Cup.
They recovered from behind to defeat Everton 3-1, thanks to goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Bernaro Silva.
After colliding with Everton striker Beto, John Stones was hauled out at the end of the first half with an ankle injury.
Injuries have severely hampered the England international’s season. The victory over Everton was only his fifth appearance of the season.
In his post-match press conference, Pep Guardiola said Amazon:
‘It doesn’t look promising, but we’ll see. This is his ankle.’
‘Hopefully the injury is minor and he can return shortly.’
The main reason for City’s dissatisfaction with this injury is that it occurred during a play that was later ruled offside.
There is one bright spot for Guardiola and his squad. Kevin de Bruyne is about to return from a lengthy layoff, and City boss Pep Guardiola delivered an upbeat report on the Belgian sensation.
‘Kevin is near, but he was tired yesterday, and we need to be cautious,’ Guardiola said.
‘When he was injured for three months, if you don’t handle the times well, you can get injured again.
‘The injury was serious, so it was step by step, but he’s exercising with us and he’s so positive that he’ll be back soon,’ said the coach. I’d like him to play in the next game against Huddersfield, but what matters is that he stays fit for a long period, not just for one game.’
The Premier standings champions are presently fourth in the standings, five points behind Liverpool despite having played one fewer game.
