Manchester United star Anthony Martial ‘may be transferred’ during the January transfer window, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, and the Frenchman’s next destination is unknown if he leaves Old Trafford.
Over the holiday season, the Red Devils entered a new era, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe gaining control of football operations when his £1.3 billion deal to acquire a 25% share in the club was confirmed on Christmas Eve.
Sir Dave Brailsford, the billionaire’s INEOS group’s director of sport, was in attendance as Erik ten Hag’s team recovered a two-goal deficit to defeat high-flying Aston Villa 3-2 less than 48 hours after the hierarchy shift was announced.
Serie A is interested in Martial
According to Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Martial has been identified as a target for Inter Milan ahead of the winter transfer window opening in the coming days, however he is not the first-choice option as they look to improve their assault.
According to the report, the Serie A giants have discovered a potential opportunity to pounce on the striker because Manchester United do not intend to trigger a one-year contract extension, meaning he will become a free agent in the summer, but Porto striker Mehdi Taremi is at the top of their shopping list.
Martial has been with the Red Devils since signing a deal for up to £58 million from Monaco in 2015, making him the world’s most expensive teenager, and he has remained one of the club’s biggest earners despite battling to secure a regular starting berth.
However, his exit appears to be on the cards, as transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently told GIVEMESPORT that Manchester United are unlikely to extend his contract and may look to sign a successor next month.
However, the Red Devils may have set their eyes on ensuring that Martial does not leave as a free agent at the conclusion of the season, since ten Hag has stated that new contract talks are beginning.
Although it is believed that the striker did not come close to leaving Manchester United during the summer transfer window due to a lack of enticing offers, he has been on West Ham United’s radar in recent months.
Update on Ben Jacobs – Anthony Martial
Jacobs feels Martial, who United great Roy Keane slammed earlier this month, should be allowed to finish his Manchester United career before the January transfer window closes, as ten Hag will need to sanction outgoings in order to bring in up to two reinforcements.
However, the acclaimed journalist believes it is uncertain whether the 28-year-old is keen to cash in on the riches on offer in Saudi Arabia, despite serious interest from the Middle East, as well as Turkish organizations and previous employers Lyon.
Jacobs stated to GIVEMESPORT:
“Although I don’t expect Manchester United to be overly busy in January, one or two players coming in wouldn’t surprise me, especially if outgoings can be facilitated.”
“Anthony Martial could be sold now that it is clear that his contract will expire and he will be free to leave.” The Saudi interest is legitimate, but it is uncertain whether Martial is interested.
“A few Turkish clubs are also considering making an offer.” Lyon would love to have Martial back and have tried in the past, but it’s nearly impossible, especially given his wages and the French club’s relegation.”
