Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has hinted that he may stick with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho on the left and right wings in the future.
The Red Devils defeated Aston Villa to break a four-match winless streak in all competitions. They were 2-0 down at halftime against the Villans before mounting an incredible comeback.
Alejandro Garnacho, who started on the right wing, was the man of the match with two well-taken goals, while Rasmus Hojlund finally scored in the Premier League after a lengthy wait.
Marcus Rashford, who plays on the left wing, was also active. The Englishman set up the first goal and may have had another if Garnacho hadn’t been caught offside.
Ten Hag was happy with Rashford’s performance after the game, praising his mobility, shots on goal, and ability to find his teammates with some nice passes.
The Dutch tactician suggested that Rashford and Garnacho might play together in the future, but that the former can also score from the right side of the attack.
“He showed he was not only a threat, but he had key actions: assists, shots on target, and scored goals,” he told Manutd.com. Yes, there is internal competitiveness, but we must figure out how to balance that with teamwork.”
“We played Alejandro on the right side today, which can be a solution, but it can also be fluid.” But I’m confident Rashford will score from the right side as well.”
After defeating Unai Emery’s team, Manchester United has temporarily moved up to sixth in the table. They must now maintain their momentum by defeating Nottingham Forest before the New Year.
This season has become the club’s Achilles heel. Whenever they have given a strong performance, it has been followed by a subpar performance. This weekend, the club must avoid a repeat performance.
Ten Hag appears to have discovered his greatest attack. Over the next few months, Rashford, Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, and Rasmus Hojlund should be the manager’s favorite front four.
