Since making his Premier League debut against Everton last month, the 18-year-old midfielder has been consistently good for the Red Devils, and he extended his fine form against the Villans.
The goal scorers were thrilled with his great performance in the much-needed victory, and they took to Instagram to express their feelings following the Boxing Day thriller.
The Manchester United academy product had 49 touches, completed 34 passes, won five of six aerial duels he challenged for, cleared three times, won two of three tackles he attempted, and made one interception.
Most of the players only came on in the second half after the Red Devils fell behind 2-0 at halftime, but Mainoo was brilliant throughout both halves until he was substituted late in the game.
Man United manager Erik ten Hag was relieved after the game, despite the rising pressure on him, and he will be hoping that majority of his players can step up and be as devoted and hungry as the young phenom.
The Red Devils return to action on Saturday, when they travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest in their final game of the season, and the Dutchman will be desperate for another strong performance and victory to persuade new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team that he is the right man for the job.
Yesterday’s game was one of the better Man United performances in 2023-24, but whether they can start duplicating such frequently remains to be seen, since most of the players have often appeared bored and indifferent.
