The Red Devils’ defensive midfielder is thought to have just received an offer from a mystery club in that country, so if he does leave in the coming weeks, Erik ten Hag will have to go on the lookout for a suitable successor.

Amadou Onana of Everton has been mentioned as a potential contender, with the 22-year-old emerging as Sean Dyche’s second best-performing defensive player this season (WhoScored – Everton statistics).

The Belgium international has been a long-term target of the club’s leadership, having allegedly held negotiations to join over the summer. While a deal did not materialize before the deadline, officials are considering taking another shot at bringing him to Old Trafford.

Onana is a target for Manchester United

Sebastien Denis disclosed to X that Manchester United want to sign Onana, but they aren’t alone in their chase, with Barcelona also interested in signing him in January.

“Exclusive: Amadou Onana is impressing in the Premier League and could leave Everton this summer or next.” Everton is seeking between 55 and 60 million euros [£47-51 million]. The Barcelona team has already met with the midfielder’s entourage. Manchester United remains keen on the former Lille player.”

In the center, there is a “one-man army” named Onana

With his height of 6 feet 3 inches, Onana provides a completely other dimension to the center of the field, where he is not only strong at winning individual battles in the air, but he also loves to get dug into challenges to try and win back possession for his team in the Premier League.

The Dakar native can also make an impact on the other end of the field, having scored three goals and provided the same number of assists since joining Everton last summer, with his desire to get involved both defensively and offensively making him a well-rounded player (Transfermarkt – Onana statistics).

Ten Hag’s target is also a versatile player, having played in five different positions since his professional debut, including three roles in midfield, as a centre-back, and even as a center-forward, so he would be able to provide excellent cover in other areas of the pitch.

According to football talent scout Jacek Kulig, Onana is a “one-man army” because of all of the things he can accomplish at once, so if the board is able to close this deal in the coming weeks, it would be a huge coup for Ten Hag.
