After round 17, Real Madrid trounced Villarreal 4-1 at the Bernabeu on December 17 to reclaim the top spot in La Liga. Coach Ancelotti’s players celebrated their triumphant win thanks to goals from Bellingham and Modric.
Real Madrid is eager to defeat Villarreal at the Bernabeu to challenge Girona for the top spot in the rankings. With Modric and Kroos in the middle of the pitch, Coach Ancelotti started the strongest lineup possible, with Diaz, Bellingham, and Rodrygo in charge of scoring.

Real Madrid rallied their team to score early after the game whistle went out. But Villarreal fielded a strong defense, resulting in a near-stalemate between the “White Vultures” in the opening 20 minutes.
Jude Bellingham created a lasting impression in the match’s 25th minute, which was its high point. After receiving a pass from Luka Modric, the English midfielder leaped high and wildly shook his head, striking Villarreal’s goal to give Real Madrid the lead 1-0.
Real Madrid found it much simpler to kick after taking the lead, and Rodrygo’s game-winning goal in the penalty area in the 37th minute doubled the advantage to 2-0 for the team.
Following a decisive kick by Morales, Villarreal struck a goal in the 54th minute of the second half to close the score. Still, that’s all “Yellow Submarine” did during Real Madrid’s thrilling game at the Bernabeu.

In the 64th minute, Brahim Diaz made it 3-1, and four minutes later, Luka Modric’s name was displayed on the scoreboard, giving Real Madrid a 4-1 triumph. With 41 points, one point ahead of Girona, this victory helps coach Carlo Ancelotti’s club reclaim the top spot in the 2023–24 La Liga standings.
Girona will overtake Real Madrid tonight if the Catalan team wins over Alaves. Real Madrid will visit Alaves’ stadium on December 22 for the 18th round of the La Liga.
