Barcelona penalized Pep Guardiola for taking part in a modeling catwalk, but the designer had the final laugh when all of the apparel he wore flew off the shelves.
The four-time Premier League champion Manchester City manager has become known for his unique touchline flair, which may have been influenced by Antonio Miro.
Guardiola accepted an invitation from Miro during his time at Barcelona in La Liga, which irritated then-manager Johan Cruyff.
Miro, a Catalan fashion designer who died last year at the age of 74, was behind the clothes, as his son David recently explained.
“Pep asked my father in the 1990s if he could model for him,” he told Mundial Magazine. My father was a fan of FC Barcelona, therefore he agreed to the proposal.
“Johan Cruyff later punished Pep for being unprofessional, and when Barcelona defender Gerard Pique asked the same question of my father years later, Guardiola wouldn’t let him.”
“The funny thing about it all is that every single garment Guardiola wore in that show was sold out in a few days.”
In response, one Twitter user wrote, “No wonder his fashion game is always top notch.”
Following City’s 2018/19 Premier League title, Guardiola auctioned off a historic coat, generating thousands of dollars for the club’s charity.
£6000 was raised for City in the Community’s healthy food service, which serves schoolchildren throughout the holidays.
Guardiola expressed his satisfaction at raising so much money for such a worthwhile cause and thanked everyone who contributed.
He went on to say: “It is also fantastic to be able to give something personal to the fans whose support helped us achieve incredible success last season.”
