‘FALLING’: Pundit says Man Utd should sell £340k/w star in January due to lack of contribution

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is ‘very upset’ with his lack of game time under Erik ten Hag, but transfer insider Dean Jones highlighted a stumbling block in his prospective departure while speaking to GIVEMESPORT.

The Frenchman’s absence from the United squad has prompted concerns about his future at Old Trafford, despite having such a successful season alongside Lisandro Martnez in their Carabao Cup-winning season in 2022/23.

Varane’s time at Greater Manchester has been hampered by injuries, but there is no doubt that he is the club’s greatest defender and, as such, should be a constant feature in their games going ahead. To do so, the Red Devils will need to keep hold of the 2018 World Cup winner beyond the upcoming January transfer window.

Varane is obviously irritated by his lack of playing time.

When United paid £42 million for the four-time Champions League winner in 2021, anticipation grew in the Old Trafford dressing room, as a defender of his caliber was likely to add a wealth of experience to their back line.

Now, two years later, he appears to be below Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, and Jonny Evans in Ten Hag’s pecking order, which no fan could have predicted. In 2023/24, the former Real Madrid star has played just 735 minutes in a United shirt, illustrating how unpopular he is with current manager Ten Hag.

However, the dependable Fabrizio Romano recently disclosed to GIVEMESPORT that, despite being relegated to the bench on a regular basis, Varane is ‘not desperate’ to leave his current club.

Currently unfancied by Ten Hag, sources from Spain claim that Al-Nassr, the club where his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo plays, are the frontrunners to recruit Varane in January, with a €15 million sum rumored to be enough to secure his services. According to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, the defender’s objective is to stay in Europe, with Bayern Munich apparently keeping an eye on his status in Manchester.

The senior 30-year-old’s contract at Old Trafford expires in 2025, but he might leave the 13-time Premier League champions in January, according to Jones, who recently told GIVEMESPORT Sir Jim Ratcliffe, upon his arrival, could overturn Ten Hag’s choice and keep him at the club.
