The winger for Manchester United, Antony, responded to the “unfair and malicious” comments leveled by former teammates.
The Brazilian has occasionally been used as a scapegoat for United’s subpar performances, with Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, and Gary Neville all making vocal remarks.
2.Speaking out about the criticism he received from former United playersRegards: GettyNeville called Antony “embarrassing” in October after he angrily attacked Jeremy Doku during the Manchester derby.Last year, Scholes referred to him as a “clown” due of his ostentatious behavior.Meanwhile, after their nervous 1-0 victory over Fulham this season, Ferdinand made a critical evaluation.
“He’s played 11 games this season with no goals and zero assists, from an attacking player that’s not good enough, that’s the facts,” said the former centre-back.
“Today you’ve got to look at a 35-year-old on the opposite wing in Willian and if you didn’t know their ages and career path you’d probably go Willian.”
In an interview with The United Stand, Antony has hit back at those former players turned pundits.
He said: “Today, I see criticism coming from former club players and other people in the media, who unreasonably express their opinions and influence thousands of fans, sometimes even when I do not play.
“But I’ve never seen them give constructive criticism, which will help me be a better professional. None of them have ever sent me a message to see how I am feeling, especially during this period of turbulence that I am going through.”
