A YOUNG kid from Belfast realized his goal when he met Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp, two Ԁie-hard Liverpool supporters.
Daithi Mac Gabhann has had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) since childhood and is an organ donor advocate.
As he waits for a heart transplant donor, the seven-year-old is becoming increasingly reliant on a wheelchair and oxygen.
Daithi has been waiting more than 2,000 days for the potentially life-saving procedure.
While he waits, the Belfast native has fronted the ‘Donate4Daithi’ campaign with his parents, Mairtin and Seph.
Because of the family’s perseverance, the law has changed and public awareness of organ donation has expanded.
Former Health Minister Robin Swann developed legislation for a mild opt-out, which the Executive approved in 2021.
Daithi’s Law was allowed to proceed, but it was postponed until the fall of the Executive in February 2022.
Following that, it was passed by Westminster, and the law went into effect in June.
Daithi was removed off the list in the summer due to his declining health, but he was able to reapply in July after undergoing heart surgery in Newcastle.
Daithi and his father Mairtin have since awarded the prestigious Spirit of NI Award as well as the title of Best Social Media Campaign in Charity.
Despite the family’s tough circumstances, Daithi enjoyed a unique time with his idols.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp paid a visit to the small child, as did the team’s star player Mo Salah, who both smiled beside him.
Daithi, a die-hard Liverpool fan, saw it as “Christmas come early.”
With a late goal, Klopp and Salah helped the Merseyside squad upset Fulham 4-3 at Anfield, fresh off a historic Premier League victory.
Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute, just minutes after Wataru Endo tied the score at three.
Alexander-Arnold also hit a stunning free kick earlier in the game.
Daithi is pleased that Liverpool has surpassed Manchester City in the Premier League standings.
The Reds are just two points behind table-toppers Arsenal and will be looking for their second Premier League title and 20th overall in English sport.
