Despite the millions spent under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United requires a revamp, and the newest candidate on the club’s radar is Valencia star Javi Guerra.
The 20-year-old started his career with Villarreal before heading to Valencia in 2019. He began his career with the Los Che B club before making his official debut in 2023. The Spaniard has quickly established himself as a reliable performer for Mista and continues to attract the attention of some of Europe’s heavyweights.
He is a defensive midfielder who has piqued the interest of Old Trafford decision-makers ahead of the summer transfer window in 2024. Given the English side’s current alternatives, the specialty position in the middle of the park needs to be addressed next summer.
What makes Guerra tick?
Sofyan Amrabat has been a good addition, but it remains to be seen whether his loan deal will be extended. Casemiro, on the other hand, is still dealing with ailments and, given his age, is hardly a long-term possibility.
This season, Scott McTominay has performed admirably in an attacking role rather than a defensive one. United have been overrun in the middle of the park due to a lack of a reliable midfield enforcer. Unless and until Ten Hag and his teammates fill that void, they will continue to set the pace against the greatest teams in England and elsewhere.
The Valencia star is still a work in progress and is far from a polished player. Given his age and potential, the club would be wise to act quickly before his value skyrockets. Also, at the age of 20, Guerra virtually guarantees the job for the next decade.
An opportunity to capitalize on
According to Fichajes, Guerra signed new terms last summer, although Valencia is unlikely to exercise his €100 million release clause. The La Liga heavyweights have fallen from grace in recent years, and financial constraints may force them to accept a €40 million sum for their star player.
Juventus, another Italian powerhouse, is interested in Guerra but is only willing to pay roughly €25 million for him. It is much below even the lowered asking price, creating a wrench in their plans. United will bear the financial burden of acquiring the player. Given their recent performance, it would be irresponsible not to future-proof the roster in that position.
