Jack Grealish is British football’s “wonderboy.” He helped England reach the Euros final at Wembley Stadium last summer (the best England team performance in living memory), and he has the best boyband curtains on any pitch since David Beckham hung up his Adidas Predators. It’s no surprise that he’s been chosen by Gucci to be one of the brand’s newest global ambassadors, following in the footsteps of Harry Styles (who recently debuted his first-ever collection with the label), Jared Leto, and Miley Cyrus.
The Man City and England midfielder was rumoured to have signed with the Italian superbrand earlier this year, but there has been little mention of the partnership aside from a slight nod to it in an interview with The Face earlier this year, nor has Gucci released any campaign images featuring the cheeky footballer. Having said that, the 26-year-old has already put his ambassador skills to the test.
Notable Gucci pieces previously spotted on the Birmingham-born athlete include the brilliant blue monogrammed shorts he wore to Leeds Festival last summer and the black parka with interlocking Gs going down the arms that he occasionally wears in the fans of Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.
And he’s recently been seen getting into the swing of things, having been photographed with a fresh new item from the Italian house’s enormous catalog. Grealish was photographed in Manchester ahead of the start of the new season this weekend, wearing a white tee, black skinny-fit sweatpants, and Nike sneakers. He was carrying a black vintage-style duffle bag in a black variant of Gucci’s signature GG supreme canvas, which is certainly not something you and I can afford to tote our sweaty exercise gear around in.
It’s the kind of thing we can expect from Jack Grealish in his new job as ambassador. He chose one discreet, but enormous, piece from the luxury label, which has witnessed increased success because to logomania, dual-branded collaborations with Adidas and The North Face, and the Balenciaga Hacket Project.
Campaigns, on the other hand, are where Grealo will most likely demonstrate his fashion credentials, and where we will see him in a fresh light. Consider the ambassadors described before. Styles posed with lambs, goats, and piglets in a 2018 Gucci campaign, as did Jared Leto, who wore his own prosthetic head to the Met Gala, Lana Del Rey sprinted around a supermarket in a fern green coat with her signature lick of eyeliner, and Miley Cyrus posed with a collection of pets.
