‘Doesn’t look good’: Jurgen Klopp says Mac Allister’s knee injury is worse than first thought

Alexis Mac Allister needed stitches after suffering a knee injury in Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League win over Sheffield United on Wednesday. While he was not immediately substituted, he was forced to leave the game early, and manager Jurgen Klopp doubted that he would be fit for Saturday’s early match against Crystal Palace, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp stated that Alexis MacAllister’s knee injury “doesn’t look good.”

During Liverpool’s 2-0 away win against Sheffield United in midweek, the 24-year-old Argentina international suffered a knee injury.

While he did not need to be replaced until 57 minutes into the game, he did have the wound sewn up and is not likely to play for The Reds against Crystal Palace on Saturday, which will be shown live on TNT Sports.

“I don’t expect him to be ready for [Saturday],” he added. I’m not sure about Thursday or Sunday after that, so it’s basically stop and go. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Liverpool play Union Saint-Gilloise in the UEFA Europa League next Thursday, having already qualified for the next round, so Mac Allister is unlikely to be risked, but the following Sunday is a potentially crucial match against Manchester United at Anfield.

Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, could be available on Saturday.

“Looks good,” Klopp said. I’m not sure if it’ll be good enough for [Saturday], I’ll have to verify.”

Joel Matip, who damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, is another player who will be missing. The German stated that he did not expect it to hinder him from having his contract, which expires in the summer, extended further, but he made no guarantees.

“I’m pretty sure the club will show their class,” he remarked. While discussing a contract extension, he added: “I would say so, but it’s not my decision.”
