According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Patrick Mahomes can equal Tom Brady’s seven Super Bowl victories.
After bouncing back from an exacerbated ankle injury to lead his club to a 38-35 comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs secured his second ring.
Smith stated that Mahomes is on pace to tie the NFL legend, although he still has a ways to go to catch up to Brady, who has won seven of his nine postseason appearances to the championship game.
The day following Super Bowl LVII, Smith was asked if he thought Mahomes could match Brady’s record of seven victories on ESPN’s First Take.
He answered, “I think he can because you can’t prepare for him when you see how important the quarterback position is and how dynamic and mercurial he is.”
According to Stephen A. Smith, Patrick Mahomes (shown) can equal Tom Brady’s seven Super Bowl victories.
‘In my opinion, there was a greater doubt going into the season as to whether he could pull that off because, despite being the best player, they had lost to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl the previous time we saw him.
However, losing Tyreek Hill, who I rank among the top three to five wide receivers in the NFL, over the offseason and still leading the team in points and yards, as well as defeating Jacksonville and the Cincinnati Bengals in the playoffs, is quite an accomplishment.
And then face the Philadelphia Eagles defense, trailing by ten points essentially on one leg, only to overcome them in the second half.
Talking about what you can’t do is incredibly difficult when you can accomplish something like that. As a quarterback, he has demonstrated that practically little is beyond his capabilities.
Smith also thinks that Mahomes will be able to sustain his high standards because of the Chiefs’ stable leadership, which includes owner Clark Hunt and head coach Andy Reid.
He asserted that with players like Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce under contract, Kansas City is primed to establish a dynasty.
“When you think about their leadership and structure,” he continued. “Andy Reid declared he is not retiring and will return following the game.” Andy Reid will remain in that position. The Hunts, the owners, are in possession.
“You have a stable front office, stable coaching, and of course, you have guys like Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes who aren’t going anywhere for the foreseeable future.” They also have a big group of emerging talent.
Brady was a six-time New England Patriots champion, with his final title coming in Super Bowl LIII against the Rams.
