Kylian Mbappé has achieved the remarkable feat of entering France’s top 10 highest goal scorers of all time, just five years after making his international debut. The 23-year-old striker is now only two goals away from matching the legendary Zinedine Zidane’s tally.
As he continues to chase down the likes of Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann, Thierry Henry, and Olivier Giroud, Mbappé’s goal in France’s 4-1 victory over Australia at the 2022 World Cup marked his 29th goal in 60 international appearances. This propelled him past former midfielder Youri Djorkaeff and into the top 10.
Jean-Pierre Papin and Just Fontaine currently sit on 30 goals, with Zidane just ahead on 31. Mbappé has set his sights on surpassing these records and aims to reach the top three slots currently held by Griezmann (42 goals) and joint leaders Giroud and Henry (51 goals each). Given Mbappé’s impressive scoring rate and the fact that his number of appearances is significantly fewer than that of Henry and Giroud, it is highly likely that he will eventually reach and surpass their goal tally.
