Kobbie Mainoo Set for Massive Salary Boost at Man Utd Despite Limited Premier League Starts

According to a recent report, Kobbie Mainoo is on track to receive a substantial pay increase at Manchester United, despite having made only two Premier League starts. The 18-year-old surprised many by starting in United’s match against Everton at a packed Goodison Park last week.

Mainoo delivered an impressive performance in the team’s 3-0 victory and followed it up with another assured display off the bench in the 3-3 draw against Galatasaray in Istanbul. He earned his second Premier League start of the season in the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday night.

Regarded as a future star at Old Trafford, Mainoo signed a new contract with the club in February, which currently runs until 2027, with the option of a one-year extension. The Sun reports that his contract includes incremental pay increases, with his salary set to rise to £20,000 per week once he reaches double figures in first-team appearances.

Given his impressive performances in recent matches, Mainoo could achieve this milestone by the end of the month. With his three appearances in the past week, he has already accumulated six appearances, over halfway to triggering the “double-your-money” increase mentioned by The Sun.

Additionally, Mainoo’s wages will reportedly be boosted by substantial bonuses for being in the matchday squad, as well as through appearance and win clauses. Furthermore, his salary is expected to increase further once he becomes a regular in the first team.

However, Manchester United is said to be cautious about handling their academy talents, having learned from past experiences. They previously awarded a significant deal to emerging talent Adnan Januzaj, who reportedly earned £50,000 per week after breаking into the first team. Unfortunately, Januzaj’s impact on first-team proceedings diminished significantly over time. As a result, the club is now hesitant to offer large contracts too early in a player’s career.
