Manchester United lost their sixth Premier League defeat of the season Wednesday, falling to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

The Magpies overpowered the Red Devils from the start, and they fought to take control throughout the game. The hosts won by a single goal, but the defeat could have been much worse.

Several stars, including Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot, did not attend the game, but Harry Maguire was among those who attempted to thwart the Magpies’ attack.

Over the last month, the €20 million-rated star has been an unquestioned starter in the right center-back position. He was effective at the back against Wolves, with 61 touches and three crucial blocks.

Apart from that, he won three tackles, six duels, and three clearances. The centre-back also had the most interceptions (3), but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory.

Antony almost scored a late equalizer for the visitors, but the goal was disallowed because Maguire came in the way of the effort from an offside position.

The Red Devils were always expected to have a tough battle on the road at Newcastle, but no one expected the Magpies to dominate the proceedings throughout 90 minutes.

On the occasion, United had eight efforts against the Magpies’ 22. They limited the hosts to four shots on goal, but they were pinned back in their own half for the majority of the game.

United are now seventh in the league rankings, four points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, who have a game in hand against Bournemouth this afternoon.

Erik ten Hag’s team has no time to dwell on the outcome and must regroup with games coming thick and fast. On Wednesday night, they play Chelsea in the Premier League.
