Harry Maguire has come out to defend Marcus Rashford after TNT Sports presenter Jermaine Jenas slammed him.
Jenas thought some Manchester United players, including Rashford, were sending a message to manager Erik ten Hag with their body language during Saturday night’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United.
However, Maguire stated that the Manchester United camp is aware of what Rashford brings to the table, despite the fact that the team’s troubles this season have been seen to all, both inside and outside the club.
According to the Mirror, Maguire stated, ‘Marcus had an incredible season last season. It hasn’t clicked for him this season. He’s putting forth a lot of effort. Everyone in that locker room understands what he’s about.’
‘It’s been a challenging week with three away days in six days,’ the 30-year-old defender said of the team’s performance. To be fair, we looked like we’d played our third away game in six days in the first half.
‘The speed and energy were lacking. They were far superior than us. We got better at the game, but it wasn’t enough.’
Newcastle’s solitary goal of the game came from Anthony Gordon as they defeated Manchester United to complete their week on the road on a dismal note.
Following the three away games at Old Trafford, the Red Devils now have three home games in a row, with Chelsea and Bournemouth both visiting before a critical Champions League match against Bayern Munich.
However, the defeat to Newcastle, combined with the midweek draw in Europe, means that Ten Hag must figure out what to do with his players to put them in the best possible position for the rest of the season – and for some pundits, that includes navigating around the players’ own thoughts and actions.
