Bayern Munich and star left-back Alphonso Davies are negotiating a contract extension, but the club has finding it impossible to make any progress with the Canadian.
With Real Madrid interested, Davies might either be playing hardball during discussions with Bayern Munich…or he is postponing telling the Bavarians that he wants to move to Spain:
According to MARCA, Alphonso Davies continues to turn down contract offers from Bayern Munich. As a result, Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on the situation. The current contract of the 23-year-old left-back expires in 2025, therefore he will be entering the final year of his term next summer. Given the complexities of the negotiations between Davies and Bayern, the Canadian may be placed on the market, allowing Real Madrid to take advantage.
The source also claims that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have a good relationship, which might be advantageous if the two teams wind up talking about the 23-year-old Champions League winner.
The €70 million-rated speedster combines offensive output with flawless defensive recoveries, hence Real Madrid’s interest in probably one of the best left-backs in the world.
While Los Blancos are keeping an eye on the Alphonso Davies scenario, Bayern wants to avoid a repeat of the David Alaba situation in which he is released for free. At this time, Bayern’s position is clear: the contract will not be renewed before June 30. The plan is to put the full-back on the market if he does not comply, as the Germans do not want to have their pride harmed by allowing him to leave for free.
With previous reports claiming that Real Madrid’s leadership is looking to transfer Ferland Mendy, a deal for Davies becomes much more possible.
Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel would be disappointed if Davies left.
“He’s our player, and he’s a key player.” He understands how much we appreciate him. It makes no difference to me how long a player is under contract. He consistently competes at the highest level. I have faith in the management. We frequently forget that he is still a relatively young player. Tuchel said (as caught by @iMiaSanMia): “He has room for improvement in every area, but all at an extremely high level.”
Things are heating up between Bayern Munich and Davies. It is important to note that the left-back has not yet declared anything. Anything is still possible, but it appears like the two sides will part ways this summer.
