Manchester City, according to rumors, has joined Arsenal in the hunt to recruit Douglas Luiz from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
Luiz previously played for Manchester City, however he did not make a single senior appearance for the Premier League champions until joining Aston Villa in 2019.
Over the last four and a half years, the Brazil international has made 170 appearances for the Villans in all competitions, developing into one of the Premier League’s top defensive midfielders.
Under Unai Emery, the 25-year-old has five goals and two assists in 13 league appearances for Aston Villa, who beat Tottenham 2-1 on Sunday to climb into the top four.
Luiz, who is worth €55 million according to transfermarkt, has been widely linked with a move to Arsenal in previous years. He has been mentioned as one of their priority targets ahead of the January transfer window, but according to Football Insider, Manchester City is also interested in him.
City are thought to have a’surprise plan to re-sign Luiz’. The report continues.
‘Man City are keen on re-signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to Football Insider.
‘Football Insider stated last week (17 November) that Arsenal are “hell-bent” on signing the 25-year-old midfielder during the January transfer window.
‘City are also looking for a central midfielder as the winter transfer window approaches.
‘On November 17, sources told Football Insider that Pep Guardiola’s side are interested in Al-Hilal star Ruben Neves. Both Neves and Luiz are thought to be on the Etihad Stadium shortlist.’
Following Villa’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham, head coach Emery stated that Luiz is “happy with us.”
“He’s doing pretty well. “He’s made significant progress, and his dedication is admirable,” Emery said.
“I am very pleased with him, and I intend to keep him.” I believe he is content with us.
“He’s making his debut for his national team.” And his performance today was outstanding. “I’m after him.”
Luiz was named Arsenal’s “top target” earlier this month by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
“I mentioned the name of Douglas Luiz last week as the top target for Arsenal, and I can confirm guys that Arsenal really, really want and appreciate Douglas Luiz,” he stated.
“He’s been on their radar for more than two years, and Arsenal sees him as the ideal midfielder for their style of play, due to his intensity and the quality he can bring.” So many various variables have pushed him to the top of Arsenal’s priority list.
“The problem is that Aston Villa have no intention of releasing him in January, so it will be extremely difficult.” It will require a significant proposition to entice Aston Villa, which will not be easy.
“However, Douglas Luiz is on Arsenal’s list and is a present and future midfielder.” Let’s see if they can make it happen in January, or if they need to look for another midfield answer.”
